Warragamba Dam close to full – gates opening from tonight for upto 2 weeks
More water is being let out of Warragamba Dam from 9pm this evening for up to two weeks to get the level down after recent rain has seen the dam level rise to full.
We reported yesterday on Warragamba Dam’s side gates being opened to ensure the water level was kept down as rain fell, well it wasn’t sufficient, so from this evening WaterNSW will be operating the gates manually to reduce the water level to 1metre below full supply.
This is standard operating protocol, says WaterNSW and they add, “assuming no further rainfall, the drawdown should be complete within one to two weeks”.
“River users may notice a small increase in river heights over this period,” they say.
