Wisemans maritime patrol busy on Colo and Hawkesbury rivers
Wisemans Ferry police officers were out patrolling the Hawkesbury and Colo rivers on Saturday, where they carried out 13 breath tests and handed out infringements and cautions for riding a jet ski (officially a powered water craft or PWC) with no licence, towing too many people, and not having safety equipment.
One ferry operator – Kelly Mansfield – said the operation had “a remarkable effect on river users, particularly when it came to their usual disregard for crossing in front of ferries when underway”.
Officers from Wisemans Ferry station carried out the patrol on the NSW Maritime Vessel in a joint operation with a local Boating Safety Officer between Laughtondale, Wisemans Ferry and Lower Portland.
“Police will continue to work closely with NSW Maritime and resources from the Marine Area Command over Spring and Summer in efforts to maintain safety on our inland water ways,” said Chief Inspector Garry Sims APM.
