Behind the Counter: How One Conversation Led to Owning a Record Shop

The sweet songs of Richmond Records have been serenading the Hawkesbury since the 1980’s, with the store being pivotal to our local music scene. But this year the store is getting some fresh paint, so we would like to welcome to the stage the new owner… Spyda!

Spyda, or Paul, is a retired Police Officer of 32 years, who has always held a passion for music. He said he is still “giggin’ around” and that on a typical Sunday afternoon you can find him playing in a band at a local pub, or writing his own music.

Hawkesbury Local Honoured as North Western Sydney Senior Volunteer of the Year

In a heartwarming recognition of community spirit, Pauleen West from North Richmond has been named the 2024 North Western Sydney Senior Volunteer of the Year. The prestigious award celebrates Pauleen’s decade-long commitment to enhancing the lives of seniors in the Hawkesbury region.

The North Western Sydney Volunteer of the Year Awards, held at Castle Hill RSL, also recognised outstanding volunteers in other categories. Final-year medical student Yannick De Silva was named the 2024 North Western Sydney Volunteer of the Year for his dedication and support to community health and first aid as a St John Ambulance NSW volunteer.

ANZAC Day Dawn Service Honours Sacrifice and Remembrance

ANZAC Day was honoured at numerous services around the Hawkesbury last week as residents paid homage to the bravery and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand service personnel, past and present.

At Richmond hundreds of people gathered at the break of dawn as the haunting notes of the Last Post echoed across the memorial grounds, a poignant reminder of the price of freedom. Wreathes were laid in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their countries.

Among the attendees were veterans, their families, and members of the wider community, united in their shared respect for those who have served.

Windsor Optometry Marks 100 Years in Century-Old Home

Windsor Optometry recently celebrated a significant milestone – 100 years in its new, century-old location at 283 George Street. The event brought together friends, family, loyal customers, and suppliers to honour the meeting of two remarkable histories.

The practice, now based at 283 George Street, has a long history dating back to around 1920. It all began when a local pharmacist named Alfred Uren decided to set up a place where city-based optometrists could come to conduct eye tests while he dispensed glasses.
