COVID by the numbers – 1 new Hawkesbury case – fully vaxxed still getting COVID

Oct 28, 2021

Welcome to Thursday evening and our in-depth Hawkesbury numbers and COVID local news.

This round-up of Hawkesbury COVID numbers is compiled by numbers guru Kevin Pollard using NSW Health datasets, and is up to 8pm on Wednesday evening.

Our thanks, as always, to Kevin for putting the numbers together in this easily accessible format.

Coupled with our regular news updates when we hear about new COVID venues, this builds into a useful daily source of information for Hawkesbury residents.

Today’s headlines:

* 1 new COVID case in the Hawkesbury, linked to other cases.

* There are 10 active COVID cases in the Hawkesbury (was 12 yesterday)

* Dr Marianne Gale from NSW Health provided a 6 minute pre-recorded COVID update at 11am today.

* NSW Health again today (for the 4th day in the last 5 days): “We are continuing to see transmission at gyms, bars and household gatherings indoors in fully vaccinated people. You can still get COVID and pass it on even if fully vaccinated.” NSW Health spent close to 3 minutes covering this today.

* From data in Australia and abroad – you have a 20-30% chance of acquiring the Delta variant even if fully vaccinated, but only a 5-15% chance of passing it on if you do acquire the virus while fully vaccinated.

* Vaccine efficacy differs depending on how long after you had your second dose (when the infection occurred), the gap between your first and second dose and the type of vaccine.

* At least 17 confirmed COVID cases are linked to City Gym at Darlinghurst. Exposure over 1 week between October 18-25. Only fully vaccinated are allowed in gyms.

* The gym owner: “We have been notified of 17 confirmed cases of COVID-19 who either attended City Gym, Darlinghurst, while infectious or acquired their infection at the venue.”

* Of the 293 new NSW cases (was 305 yesterday) reported to 8pm, Wednesday, October 27 – 11 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD.

* In the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, there were 9 new cases yesterday, 5, 9, 13, 6, 15, 10, 13, 27, 10, 6, 4 on previous days.

* There were 89,678 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous days of 89,875, 71,352, 59,612, 66,740, 64,118, 76,594, 86,235, 88,664, 90,597 tests.

* A low 0.33% of today’s tests in NSW came back positive. It’s the fourth time in the last 9 days where the positive rate was between 0.30% and 0.34% which is low (a good sign).

* Aged care and disability care residents will be offered their third COVID-19 vaccination from today. PM Scott Morrison yesterday: “I was just talking to Jane Malysiak [the first Australian to receive a vaccine shot back on February 21, and it was in Windsor] about getting this booster shot the other day as we received our first dose on the same day. I will also get a booster shot.”

* There have been at least 132 school closures due to COVID in NSW since beginning of Term 4 on October 5 (today is the 18th school day since then).

* Not all schools have reported closures so this number would be higher. There are 3107 primary and high schools in NSW.

* No numbers on childcare or before and after school care centres closures.
